The day at VSDirect was extremely busy, from the early morning, I was forced to run everywhere, which I personally don’t mind (Always love to get my daily steps in). After being forced to be the delivery boy for most of my morning, I was finally able to sit down, and the day from that point on was extremely quiet.

After I finished my shift, I grabbed a bus from my workplace towards the city center. The moment I arrived, something caught my eye. The Irish Whiskey museum. I quickly visited the website and managed to book a trip the same day.

While waiting on the visit, I went to a coffeehouse to study, and call with some friends from Belgium.

When the visit started, the lady at the desk had to check my student ID, and we started chatting about life in Belgium, Top Model etc…

Soon after, the tour started. I learned many interesting things. Such as, that the original name for Whiskey was uisce beatha (pronounced ish-ka ba-ha), literally translating to Water of life. I’ve learned things about the history of whiskey. One of those things was that back in the day, people used to make their own alcohol at home due to the taxes being massive, and people who were found out, the person who made the alcohol, people who were in his home at the time, and everyone in a 3 mile radius was fined. Or that Dracula by Bram Stoker was inspired by people who fell into an alcoholic coma due to drinking methanol and were buried, while comatosed.

Some other terms I learned were Angel’s Share (When whiskey is being aged, it vaporises, the vapor is considered Angel’s Share) or Devil’s Cut (When whiskey is absorbed into barrels’ wood, it is also lost, that is called Devil’s Cut).

After going through an entire museum, we had a whiskey tasting experience at the end, which included the brands Powers, The Irishman, Tullamore Dew and since I had the premium experience booked, I also tasted Knappogue Castle.

After the tour left, I stayed behind to talk to the bartender, learning about stuff to do in Dublin, and I also got a Irish Whiskey museum glass to take home as a gift.

After it ended, I returned home, and me and Dan went out to explore the city where we were being hosted at.

And that was the end of it.
